The martini is a cocktail of precision. Two ingredients, one gesture, one temperature. Everything rests on the details, which is exactly why we love it. Our version keeps the recipe intact and changes the last element to enter the glass.
The recipe
- 6 cl dry gin, or vodka for a rounder version
- 1 cl dry vermouth
- 1 green olive or a lemon twist
- 1 The Rocks Prestige sphere
The method
- Chill the martini glass in the freezer ten minutes before serving.
- In a mixing glass filled with ice, pour the vermouth, then the gin.
- Stir slowly for thirty seconds, the spoon against the side. The cocktail chills and binds.
- Place the Prestige sphere in the centre of the glass with tongs, then strain the cocktail over it.
- Add the olive on a pick, or express the twist over the glass.
Why a sphere in a martini
Traditionally, a martini is served without ice and drunk quickly, before it warms. The sphere changes that pace. Its slow melt keeps the cocktail cold throughout the tasting, with no dilution. The martini is then savoured like a spirit, at its own pace.
Gold, at the heart of the ice
In each Prestige sphere, 24-carat gold leaf is inserted during crystallisation. It stays held in the ice and reveals itself as the ice melts, like light suspended in the glass. Edible gold has no taste: it adds presence, and the cocktail keeps all its purity.
When to serve it
To open a dinner, for a birthday, a proposal, the first glass of a celebration. The Prestige martini is a cocktail for celebrating.
